Aboriginal Questions

1.Saisiyat people choose their surnames from plants, animals and natural phenomena. In your country, do you think a person's surname has special meaning which can reflect your own culture and why?
I don't think so. I think it's just like each tribe has its own name, and each surname is like a tribe in Chinese culture.

2.Lily is a symbol of RuKai. For Paiwan, a hundred-step viper is significant in their society. In your country, do you have any symbol that represents your country and what does that mean?
I think Dragon might be it. Chinese people think Dragons are holy animals that bring you good luck. Although it's only an imaginary animal but Chinese people still think it's a special symbol.

3.On Beian's traditional weddings, you can see a prospective bride climbing a giant swing. And tribesmen swing her until the swing sails like kites. In your country, do you have any special ceremonies that are held on weddings? Please explain it.
I don't attend weddings a lot so I'm not too sure about this, sorry.

Tao Film Questions

(1) Please indicate the importance of the ocean to Tao. It’s how they know for weather changes, it supplies for food, and they can exercise in it.
(2) It takes a lot of time for Tao people to build a boat. How do Tao people make a boat? Do you think it is worthy or it wastes time? Why? They have wood and use knife to carve the shapes on the boat. It’s worthy because that’s why their boats have those symbols that look pretty and meaningful for the Tao people.
(3) Explain the boat launching ceremony. Cover the new boat with those leaves, the group then toss the boat up with the boat chief inside and put it in the sea.
(4) Explain the flying fish calling ceremony. They put blood in the sea and let it wash away to attract those flying fish and to catch them to have a big harvest for food.
(5) How do Tao people live in harmony with the natural environment? They treat the environment well and without make their god mad.
(6) The houses Tao people build are so special. Please compare their houses to those houses in your own country. Their houses are made of wood but our houses are made out of bricks and yea. Our house can have special designs because you can change how the bricks stack together but for their house you can’t change how the woo is grew instead of carving them. Their house have symbols in them.
(7) Tao people view eating a seasnake is a taboo because it lowers social status. In your own culture, do you have any eating taboos? Do you believe in it? Why? I don’t think so.
(8) So far only one big handmade boat is kept in Tao tribe because of modernization. Thus, some Tao people try to preserve their art culture. Please describe a vanishing art culture in your country that you would like to preserve. I don’t want to preserve any art stuff because I don’t really like art.

Comparing Japanese and Taiwanese Food

Taiwanese and Japanese food have both hot food and cold food. Because of the climate, these two countries both have four seasons, sometimes hot and sometimes cold, they must have both hot food and cold food. For hot stuff, Taiwan has tea and Japan also has its own kind of tea. For cold stuff, Taiwan has the bubble tea and Japanese has the green tea ice-cream stuff.

Taiwanese cuisine is usually like everyone gathers around a big round table with lots of dishes on the table, and people would share all the dishes. In Japan, it's only sometimes like that but other times it's like each person has his or her own meal in front of him or her instead of sharing each other. I think Taiwanese people and Japanese people have their different own snack and way of making food. Japanese people usually sit on tatami or something like that without shoes but Taiwanese people sit on chairs.

I prefer both Taiwanese and Japanese cuisine because I think both of them are delicious.

Former President Chen Shui-Bian.......

Former president Chen Shui-bian....... has stopped eating to protest against the "death of the judiciary". People think why he's doing it is because that he is suspected of embezzling 15 million NT and money laundering, which those are againsting the law. I've read from other sources that he is actually skillful in this action. He has so many bank accounts all around the world, not only his but he also make his family to do. For example, his daughter also has accounts around the world to help Chen Shui-bian to do money laundering. Because there are so many accounts, some in Japan, Hong-Kong, etc. People don't know where the money come from because the money has gone front and back from his accounts(there's like almost a hundred accounts). Therefore, he's againsting the law.

I think this article is bias because Chen supporters think that he didn't do anything bad. Although people might not know the truth, but it's not fair for the supporters of Chen.

First Energy Bar of The Play-as

For our first energy bar, although it doesn't look so good, but it worked! Our way of cooking worked, after we cooked it in the oven, the oatmeal changed and tastes like cookies. An energy bar is supposed to taste like that and we successfully made our first energy bar that way. Another thing that worked is that our ingredients worked. Our most tasting stuff, honey and chocolate, they actually mixed their taste together but because we had more honey than chocolate, it tastes really nice.
When we were making our first energy bar, firstly we didn't have a proper mold for our energy bar so it didn't stayed together as a bar but it breaks apart a little bit even after we cooked it. But this problem was soon solved. We put our bar in the fridge and when we checked it after few hours, it was hard and the ingredients didn't fall apart anymore. Now our next question is to think of a way to make it still stay as a bar after we take it out from the fridge for a long time because most of the athletes put their bars in their bag.
I don't think we should change our recipe because it actually worked and taste good. But now we have to decide that how much of each ingredients we are putting in the bar, so we can make sure that every bar that we make will taste the same(taste good).
Our group worked together really well, we first talk together on how are we making a bar and we solved our problems together. After we're done with the bar, all of us 3 tasted the bar and all of us think that it taste really good. You should try our bar when it's ready~.

MLB World Champion - Phillies

This year, the winner of the MLB world championship is the Phillies from Philadelphia, who had not won since 1980. Phillies had not won since 1980, no championship for a quarter-century, but this year, they made it, the fans are now crazy! Compare to the Phillies, there's one team that's worse than them, the Indians. The Indians hadn't won since 1948! Some states have teams for the 4 different major sports, such as Philadelphia. They have a team for baseball, basketball, and the other two. Some states haven't celebrate much because their teams are not good enough to win a good title. For example San Francisco, their basketball team only wins a little times so they couldn't celebrate much. For the Philadelphia people, for this year, they can celebrate all over for the Phillies!

I think there are some bias in the article, such as saying some other countries haven't celebrate much because their teams are not good enough, it's totally bias. It's not fair for the people who lives in the teams' that are known as not good in this article

Food Video during Taiwanese Study

In the film, there's a bald guy eating weird stuff in Taiwan night market. He ate some goose tongues, head, chicken uterus, and chicken balls. The most incredible thing is that he described the chickens balls as "extremely creamy" and "it's exploding in your mouth". He also ate unlayed chicken eggs and those weird stuff that people can't imagine about. By the way, he didn't only eat the white chicken balls, he ate black chicken balls too. I won't going to eat that even if someone is cooking for me...

US Election Debate in Taiwan

This article is about how Taiwanese people or people in Taiwan think of the US election. In the article there are people from Taiwan and other countries saying things about Obama. It significances that even though it's US election, people from other countries are talking about it too. Also, it contains reasons why people like Obama and why people don't. Oh, this article is not only about Obama but other political people too. Well.. for bias, I think it does have some because when people saying Obama is good, it's not fair for Obama "booers" and when people saying Obama is bad, it's not fair for Obama supporters.

The link is below~~ Click on it you will see an incredible thing@@"... It's so incredible..

Living things vs. non-living things

Living things are made out of one or more than one cells. Also, they should have something cover their body. The cover can't be too hard or then it's non living. For example, we have skins, and plants have some sort of skins too. These skins are not hard so we count as living. For cars and planes, their cover are way way too hard which they are non-living.

Living things can usually learn from experiences. For plants, they evolve for what they need. Animals stay away from their enemies. Non-living things like desks, they can't evolve or stay away from something by themselves, they are non-living things.

Also, non-living things don't have "real" emotions. Maybe those dolls or robots can have emotions but they are all fake. They are from programs and stuff, they follow a pattern. For example, when they see you are sad, they'll be sad (for a very very good robot) too. If it's living, like your friend or something, they might not be sad for you but they will tell you how to do it next time. Those are the differences between living and non-living things.

Reflection on THE PROJECT

We've been working on a project during the last few weeks. The project for our group (Connie, Jenai and I) was to analyze some motions with frictions. At the beginning when we first received the "task slip", we didn't know what to do because we didn't know lots of the vocabulary on the slip. After we researched about the vocabularies and ask Mr. Loken questions, we finally know what to do and we presented what we found.

I like how this was organized because now, every group is doing their own things and they are different from others. After learning, we can present to other groups, which we learn much more stuff than if we all do the same thing. With help of the internet, I think the tasks were fine. Also, we learn how to find ways to solve the problems ourselves, we train independence and problem solving skills. But the bad thing is, it's harder to study and remember everything in this short amount of time.

I think during these few weeks, I've learned about a lot of stuff that I never seen before such as the string theory or even the Newton's second law. I think we can learn more stuff this way, that the whole class doing lots of different topic at the same time and present to other groups, which we all learn the same amount of thing during short period.

If I want a change, I would like our "time of researching" to be longer. I didn't feel like we have enough time to figure out everything deeply, especially for the groups that are studying hard concepts. Mr. Loken, you might want to think of giving us more time.

String Theory

I think the things about string theory is very cool... If our whole universe is just a piece of string, then we might have someway to go to the other universe because we are connected! I think then if we can travel to other universe then we don't need to worry about environmental problems anymore unless we still need to live here even though we can travel to somewhere else. For me, I don't think it's easy to figure out the whole string theory.. Can we twist our universe and change like the condition or something? Can we find out a way to go to the other pieces of strings? That will be cool. If we traveled to other string, does that means we time traveled? There are still lots of thing for "me" to understand this theory...

How Does "The Giver" End !?

In Language Arts, we've read a book. The book is called, "The Giver". The society of this book is different than outside world, they don't have color or music, not even love! Jonas, the main character, was appointed a job called the receiver. His job was to receive memories from the giver. Which Jonas had learned colors, music, and love from the memories. He wants to change his society to have those elements but he know he is too powerless, which he decided to leave with Gabriel, a boy if Jonas doesn't take him, he will get killed, to find "elsewhere". In the almost end of this book, Jonas and a little boy with him called Gabriel have left their peaceful community to find elsewhere. On the road to elsewhere, they've faced lots of challenges like rainy whether, being in a desert having no water, and snowy whether. When they feel very very cold, they think they've heard about music, but maybe it was just an echo......... That was the end of the giver...no copying no copying no copying no copying no copying no copying no copying no copying
From my point of view, I think Jonas is dead also does Gabriel. I think they are dead at the end because even though they think they’ve heard music and see the family celebrating love. It’s because when people are almost dead, they have their “sudden dream come true” feelings. That’s why Jonas visualized his dream. So the music and the actions are not necessary true. Also the author ends the story in “maybe it’s just an echo”. Which the author is telling that they are dead but before they are dead, they see their dream world. no copying no copying no copying no copying no copying

My Engagement Grade!!

Think about my reasons hard! I'm trying to proof you what I think I should get!!! So please don't think these are non-senses, thank you @~@.don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy

For my engagement grade, I would like to get:don't copy don't copy

2 points
for my community contributor. In physic class, I answered people's questions when some of my classmates didn't know which formulas to use, or didn't know what to do next to answer some homework questions. For the challenge problem, some of the classmates asked me questions too! Sometimes I didn't answer them for the first time because sometimes I'm still busying on something else but at the end, I usually will answer. If you want to know more, during the choice period (mine is computer graphics), I helped people to find, prepare, and download at home the programs they want and then use USB to give the programs to them. So they can do something else at home such as looking at the teaching pages for the program instead of finding those programs. When they don't know how to use a program, same, I will tell them what to do and help them so I can make sure they are good with their assignments. In math, I helped people too, if they don't know how to do a question, I will help them to do it. If they forget the formula, I will tell them. I think I should get 2 points for community contributor.don't copy don't copy

2 points for my critical thinker/problem solver. In school, we always need critical thinking skill and problem solving skill in order to finish our work quickly and without getting lots of errors. I think I've done it a lot in my math class, I usually do the problems fast enough and I usually don't have any mistakes on the problems. Sometimes, I think a lot on things, I always think about what is the consequence if I do this thing, and if it's acceptable, I will then do it instead of having difficulties afterward on "what am I going to do now?". Most of the time when I'm talking to people, I think about the words I say and try not to make people angry, try to do my best on everything and don't give up, I think I should get 2 points for my critical thinker/problem solver.don't copy don't copy

1.5 points for my active learner. I always want to finish things quickly, but how to finish things quickly but also make the teacher happy? To make teachers happy, you need to make your work like you put a lot of time in it. So, if you want to do it fast and try to act like you put a lot of time in it, you need to find the shortest way of getting lots of details. The first thing is, you need to learn by yourself on the internet or books. When doing a question, go to a internet search and search for answers, after you get an answer, it's not over yet, you have to know why is "the answer" the answer, and find if the website is credible. Those 2 steps at the back doesn't take you long time to do but a teacher might think you put a lot of time in it(these are my opinion). That's the lazy way though to me, because I'm lazy sometimes, I would like to get 1.5 point for my active learner.don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy
2 points for my person of high charater. I always turn in my homework on time, even it's an on-going assignment, I will still turn in the first time, if it isn't a blue, I will try my best to fix it and get a blue. I don't say bad words to people not because I tell myself not to, it's because I just don't use those words even there's no one around me, you can ask my friend, they will proof that. I tried my best on liking everything and do them, but sometimes I failed but I'm happy that I tried. I don't feel upset "for too long" when I failed. I will gain my happiness again and bring people happiness. I follow the rules, if you tell me not to eat candy during school, I will not eat them. I think I should get 2 points for my person of high character.don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy
1.5 points for my effective communicator. Usually I don't talk much, but why do I think I should still get 1.5 point? I think I'm that kind of people that don't talk much, but when that kind of people talk, they go to the point automatically without wasting anyone's time. I usually talk shortly but my point is very very clear. Like when I was helping people, I usually use one sentence and they will understand what's my point and they will know what to do next. For more complicated things, I need to talk more but not as much as some other people who don't know how to communicate or talking non-senses all over. Well, if I'm so good at it, why do I only want 1.5 point? Because my English skills are not good as other people, people sometimes don't understand my grammar. If this engagement thing is in Chinese, I'm fully confident about getting a 2^^. Therefor, I would like to get 1.5 point for my English effective communicator.don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy don't copy
I would like to get total of 9/10 points for my engagement grade.don't copy don't copy

My ScIeNcE InTrO

Gene's XDD talk:
Hello Everyone, wanna know what I do in my science class?? I will tell you if you want to know. You know, science are divided into 3 major topics, chemistry, physics, and biology. This semester we are learning about physics.

What we did so far was learning about the relationship between the position, velocity, and acceleration. We did a big exercise using motion detector and create graphs for the 3 elements. Now we are doing something that's even harder! 1D vs 2D motions!! Now we have 2D, we would need to think more. Can you imagine? How hard it is to have physics after math?? You can't unless you come to HIS- - XD...
