Cuban Missile Crisis - How was nuclear war avoided?
I think that this war is avoided because the President of United States was Kennedy. If it wasn't him then the whole event might turn out the other way which has a high possibility of having a war with the Soviets since most of the generals wanted a war. Kennedy used defensive ways instead of offensive ways. Also, because the United States agreed to take back the missiles in Turkey and traded for the ones that the Soviets have in Cuba.
Still, I think the Soviets didn't want a nuclear war too. When the US said they want something before tomorrow, Soviets always give the stuff they want on time. I think a war wouldn't happen if both sides are against it.

Atomic Bomb
At almost the end of World War II, the US threw 2 powerful atomic bombs named "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. These 2 bombs made the 2 cities completely destroyed and made Japan surrender to the Allies. I think doing this is actually good for everybody except the ones who died or the ones who are related to the dead people.
Firstly, war is terrible and will make lots of people die. If US didn't do this then the war will continue and maybe it will cause even more damage, finally one side still have to do a massive damage to make the other side surrender so this should happen as early as possible. I think the US did this is good for themselves and Japan, even though they killed lots of Japanese people, the war has ended. The only bad thing is that there are some people that weren't dead but heavily injured, that made Japan has to spend money and heal them and that will cost a lot.
Japanese people only think that their people died but never thought of what good they have brought. Oil! Although it's not a lot but still there are some that were formed because of those dead people in Japan. Also, I think due to the war, the Japanese somehow hate the US which creates some positive stress and now, they want to surmount them by having better technology and economy which is a very good thing.
In my opinion, what US did was really good. It made Japan a better country now and made lesser people died in World War II by throwing the 2 atomic bombs at Japan. The bad thing is that Japan didn't surrender after the first bomb or the condition would have been better than now..

Benjamin Button's Producers ARE Scientists!
Have you watch the movie Benjamin Button? And did you know that the head of Benjamin was made using technology, but not a real head?
There's a TED talk that Ms. Smith showed us during our Science 10 class that talks about how they used computers to animate the head of the Benjamin. They followed the Scientific method!!
The sequence of scientific method:
1. Purpose: Their purpose was very clear. "How do we make a computer animated head that will look the best?"
2. Hypothesis: This was their hypothesis, if we put censors on a human head and record the shape of the face, then we can animate a perfect human head using computer because we have the movements.
3. Materials: There are many many materials needed in this and I can't list that many so you know....but my main point is, they HAVE used some materials.
4. Procedure: They followed the way that they had in hypothesis.
5. Observation: They played the computer animated face and determined which it was good or not..
6. Analyze: They realized that the computer animated face that they made wasn't good because it's too not detailed and doesn't look like a human at all because there were too less polygons which means the surface is not round like a human face.
They had to go back to number 2, hypothesis to figure out a new way to solve that problem.
This time they got a wide range camera that analyze the human face movement for them in like 100x the polygons.
7. Conclusion: The result was really really good using the second procedure. It is actually a human face movement when they played it, with round face instead of a face made out of lots of squares. In conclusion, they are going with this wide angle camera.

Paul Bäumer in "All Quiet on the Western Front"
Paul Bäumer is the protagonist and the narrator of this book, All Quiet on the Western Front. He is a German soldier. He is a young man who thought that wars shouldn't be fought. He always care for other people. In the book, he tried to save everyone if they were wounded. He even shared some food to the prisoners that they captured(secretly).
There was a scene where he was hiding, and a soldier from the enemy's side jumped in. He killed him but he almost cried. He didn't want to kill him but he knew that he must or he will die. Paul wrote down his name and address and promised that he will send money anonymously to that address.
Overall, Paul is a nice person. He always think and care about others. He always think that war is bad, and he didn't understand what was the purpose of the war. He wished that there's no war but peace.

Submarine SMASH Day Reflection
As it was called "Submarine SMASH Day", we did something about the submarine. We had to make a periscope! We needed to make a periscope that when we were under water(the desk), we needed to know what's in the box(you can't see through it by looking at it, in order to see you need to stand up, therefore, we need a periscope). The supplies given were some papers, 2 pieces of cardboard, scissors, and tape.
Firstly, we decided to make a regular periscope(a tube, and mirrors in it). Then we couldn't make our angle of the mirrors right, which we could see nothing. We modified our design. We changed it into "a stick with mirrors". We had a stick made out of paper and cardboard, the mirrors taped at the end. We found out that we didn't need to worry about the angle and stuff, that's why we did it and our group members all agreed with it!
If you are also doing this, I suggest you having each person holding a stick with mirror. We had a stick with all our mirrors, which there could be only 1 person seeing what's inside. With many sticks like that, all group members can see together at different place and tell each other what they saw. That way, it would be more accurate and faster. Also, the group did this had win.

Germany's Troop structure during World War I (Document 4)
http://wwi.lib.byu.edu/index.php/Germany%27s_Allowed_Military_Structure
This document is telling that how many troops the Germans had during the World War I. In total, there were around 16,000 who fought. Also, before the war I, lots of resources were used beceause as you can see, the weapon list. The weapon list is showing that how many weapons were available/made before the war. Each of them cost resources!
This will show how the Germans can fight and cause some major impact because of the troops and the weapons they had. For our topic, which is to find out the impact, it will help a lot!

Boss of Apple Company Leaves until the end of June!!!
The boss of the Apple company, Mr. Steve Jobs, is leaving until the end of June. According to what he said, he's leaving because he's going to have medical treatment. He thinks that his healthy issue is more complex than he thought.
He has suffered from a dramatic weight loss from the pass year and it's because of "hormone inbalance".
When he's away. The Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook will stand up and lead the company. Also, when Mr. Job is away, he would not be making his annual keynote address at the Macworld conference in San Francisco.
This article is informing the readers on what's happening to Mr. Steve Jobs of the Apple company because there were rumors about him and this article was to clarify them. I think this article contains no bias.

Chien-Ming Wang going back to US today!
Chien-Ming Wang is going back to US today for the next MLB season. He will be attending the spring training course on February 1st. He couldn't finish the last season because he was hurt. He hopes that he will be able to finish the whole season this year, also, his goal is to get 20 wins.
After the last MLB season, he spent 5,000,000 NTD, and made a foundation to help some poor kids or kids that have problems to learn better.
Also, he will become a dad in this coming June. When he left, he said that he was happy about it, and he will try to be a good dad.
This article tells the readers what's going on with Chein-Ming Wang now. It seems to me that there's no bias in this article.

Creature in Taiwan Video Reflection
1.How do Paiwan people show their respect to the animal they hunted?
They collect the jaw bones of the animals and hang them in their house.
2.Why archery is so important to Bunun people? How did fathers train their children to be an archer?
They hunted for food by archery, and that's important for Bunun people. The fathers trained their children by setting up an ear as the target and teach them to aim and to shoot the ear.
3.Why are bats welcomed by Ancient Chinese culture? But in western societies, why do people regard bats as nuisance?
In Ancient Chinese culture they bring good luck and chase away evil spirits. They are annoying and because they only live at black spots which they think it's not good.
4.This video shows a lot of living extinct animals in Taiwan. Please choose one animal that impressed you the most and describe its habitat and its way to survive in the natural environment?
Pangolin is the one that impressed me the most. They can attack the ants' house even with lots of ants crawling on it. I won't want to touch it when I see lots of ants crawling all over.
